!MARRIAGE: Original marriage license in my possession. Copy of divorce decree in my files.

!DEATH: She died in the Nordan Care Center of Juliette Fowler Homes (an institution supported by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dallas. We attended the funeral services(graveside), and I have a copy of the eulogy of the minister. The official death certificate lists the date of death as 26 January, 1996, but the true date is 25 January, 1996.

!NOTES: Very devoted to her family (her son and daughters, brothers and sisters, and all family members). Lived in the same home at 1401 S. Travis Street from Feb 1939 to July 1991. Of course I have many fond memories of my mother. She assumed the resposibility of caring for the family when her own mother became ill (probably tuberculosis). After her marriage she became a wife and mother for her husband and children. However she continued to be supportive of her parents and brothers and sisters. I remember her washing clothes using an old washing rub board, and singing (hymns) as she did the washing by hand. During the summer months, in addition to the usual work of keeping house, she also canned fruits and vegetables. For many years, long after she no longer needed to do home canning, she would can pear preserves. I always felt she continued this in order to give her children a delicacy of their own childhood. Her children and grand children always had great respect and admiration for her, and she was always proud of them. During our school years we lived close enough to school so we were able return home each day for our noon meal. Mother always had the food waiting for us as we came in, because she knew our time was limited. The evening meal was the family meal. During the depression years she made a little go a long way. She was an excellent seamstress, using a foot operated pedal Singer sewing machine, and made most of the clothing for her children. Even later in life she continued to make clothing for her daughters and grand daughters. After she was divorced she supported herself by sewing and baby sitting. Perhaps her strongest point was her interest in and devotion to education for her children. Although her own formal education was limited, she always strongly encouraged and supported her children in their education, and always had great pride in their accomplishments in this area. Her motivation and encouragement were probably responsible for their acquiring higher education. For many years she was a devoted member of the Central Christian Curch in Sherman, and this was probably her chief source of stength and support. In July 1991 she moved from her home to the Renaissance, a retirement home in Sherman. In July 1993 After a series of illnesses and injuries due to her osteoporosis she moved into the personal care section of the Renaissance. In February 1994 her health was such that she moved to a nursing home, the Nordan Care Center of Julliette Fowler Home in Dallas, Texas. This is operated by the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ).
