!NOTES: William and family are found in the 1850 Census of Madison county, MO and moved to St Francoise county, MO shortly after that. Based on Masonic records, it appears that William H. Smith may have been in Rusk, Texas as early as 1852. There is a William H. Smith initiated into the Euclid Lodge in Rusk, Texas on August 10, 1852, passed on September 15, 1852, and raised on October 8, 1852. He was a Tiler in 1853. He was dimitted on October 6, 1855 from the Rusk Lodge and was affilated with the East Trinity Lodge in Rockwall, Texas on May 29, 1958. This record indicates that he came from the Euclid lodge in Rusk. He was suspended on June 1, 1865 for non payment of dues and was reinstated on September 31. 1866. And he dimitted from the Rockwall lodge on August 20, 1870. He was affiliated with the Cotton Gin lodge # 154 in Cotton Gin, Freestone county, Texas on May 25, 1872 and his card states he died on February 10, 1878. Records are available from the Grand Lodge, Waco, Texas. There is a Masonic Emblem on his tombstone in the Cotten Gin cemetery in Freestone county, Texas. William and his family are found in the 1860 Census in Freestone county, Texas.
