!DEATH: Death date found in Suit 1399 filed 18 July 1842 in Logan county

!NOTE: Children of Henry Smith found in Deed 28 07 dated 1842 in Logan County Kentucky. Children include William H. Smith and his wife Mary Smith (maiden name was TOWNSEND). Also a more complete list of children and grandchildren is found in Suit 1399 filed 18 July 1842.

!NOTE: Henry was also involved in civil case 1-16 1/2 20 May 1810 in Logan County. In this case, he had abandoned his wife and fled to another state and was living in open adultry with another woman!

!NOTE: There is also a Henry L Smith discussed in the Townsend book which may be the same Henry Smith in Logan County. No proof of that currently.

!NOTE: Henry Smith's estate settlement is available from Logan Co, KY. There is an item in the inventory of "1 note on Presley E Smith v Henry Smith Sr made payable to Kinchen C. Mason due the 3rd of March 1839. $100" This is probably Henry's son who died in Louisana before 1842.

!NOTE: 1880 Census of Logan County for Abram L. Smith indicates both his father and mother were born in North Carolina. George Smith, Abram Smith's brother indicates the father and mother were both born in Virgina. 1850 Census of Henry's wife Catherine indicates she was born in NC.

!NOTE: This family was of Germanic descent. This is proven in several ways. (1) Initial information was from Mildred Borgman told me that her grandmother, Christina Clampett Hinkle said the family spoke German at home. (2) The book Portrait and Biographical Record of Johnson and Pettis Counties, MO published in 1895 has a section on Dr. Willis V. Smith, MD who was Henry Smith's grandson and a child of Henry Smith, Jr. "Dr. Smith was born in Lexington, MO, May 27, 1852 and is the son of Henry and Mary A. (Violet) Smith, the former of whom was a native of Kentucky, born in 1802. The grandfather, Henry Smith Sr., emigrated from Germany to North Carolina and afterward settled in Logan county, KY, where he became an extensive slave holder and planter." (3) In the same book the writeup of Prof. Anthony Butler Stark says, "His father, Terry W. Stark, was a farmer, and also a native of Robertson Co, TN; but when Anthony was 3 months old, moved with his family to Logan Co, KY where he lived the remainder of his life. His ancestors were of Saxon origin, and among the pioneers of NC. Hi mother, whose maiden name was Mary Smith, was of German descent and a daughter of Henry Smith, one of the first settlers of Logan Co, KY." Henry Smith is first found in the Tax Records of Logan county in 1797.

!NOTE: Henry Smith did own slaves. In the sale of Henry's estate dated 13 August 1840 in Will book G pages 147-151: "In the matter of "The Hire of the Negroes": Eli Orndorff got Sarah for $120, the Widow (Catherine) got Fleming for $58.50 and Ginney for $10, K.C. Mason got Sanders for $71, A. Smith got Christopher for $28, W. H. Williams got Randy for $20.50, and G. A. Smith got Big Dick for $62 with "Little Dick & vital clothes"
