!BIRTH: Birth Certificate and family records.

!DEATH: Family records.

!NOTE: Taught school for many years in Texas. Irene was born in Crystal Falls, Texas and grew up in Abilene. Her father, Lee Duckworth, owned several food stores there. Irene went to school in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High in 1930 and from Abilene Christian College in 1934. She married Presley in 1940. She taught school in Brekenridge, Texas, Colorado City, Texas, and other places around Abilene while Presley was in WW II. When he returned they moved to Carrizo Springs, TX. After Presley Jr was born, Irene did not teach school again until Presley Jr was in the 4th grade in 1956. She made clothes for the family and worked with the church and others in that time. In 1956 she started teaching high school math (her speciality) at Central High School in San Angelo, TX. She taught there until she retired in 1972.

!NOTE: Abilene Reporter News: July 12, 1940: "A wedding of interest is that of Miss Irene Duckworth and Presley Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Smith , which took place Wednesday, July 10th at 9:30 in the morning at the home of the brides parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Duckworth in Abilene, the Rev Walter H. Adama, Dean of Abilene Christian College, officiatng, in the presence of immediate families and a few friends. Mr.s Walter H. Adams sang "I Love You Truly". She was accompanied by Mr. W. M. Yowell at the piano who also played the wedding marches. As a background for the ceremony, beautiful in its simplicity, clusters of peach gladioli and fern were arranged along the mantel with floor baskets of gladioli and fern at either side. White eyelet embroidery fashioned the frock worn by the bride. The fitted waist was closed in front with tiny covered buttons and had a Peter Pan collar finished with pleated navy grosgrain ribbon which also trimmed the cuffs of the samll puffed sleeves. The skirt was made on flared lines. Her accessories were navy and white. She wore a corsage of gardenias. Both the bride and groom received B. A. degrees from Abilene Christian College where they were popular students. She belonged to the "W" and "kitten" clubs and he was a member of the "A" and Sub-T-16 clubs. Last year, Mr. Smith received his Master's degree from the University of Texas. She taught the past three years in and near Abilene, and for the past four years he has been principal of the Knippa High School. Out-of-town guest were Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Smith, Mrs. R. C. Killough, sister of the groom and Steve Hoag of Uvalde. Mr. and Mrs. Foy Smith (paper is wrong, is Foy BRANTLEY) of Graham, Texas. She is a sister of the bride."
