Neil is named as a son in Duncan McLeran's will, written in 1794.
Marriage bond for Neil McLeran and Christian McKethan is dated Mar. 14, 1821 ("Cumberland County Marriages")
Neill's will, written June 4, 1836, proved March 1842, mentions son-in-law Alfred McKethan, grandson Hector McKethan, grandson Neill Alexander McLeran, wife Christian McLeran, sons Duncan, Nevin, Neill, David and John McLeran, daughter Elizabeth Gardner, daughters (youngest children) Margaret J. and Grizella Ann McLeran. Extrs. son Duncan McLeran and son in law Alfred McKethan Wit. Alexander McNeill, Archd. McLeran, James McKethan Will Book B 369 (Notes of Edwin R. MacKethan; the published abstract agrees).
The next house after Neill in the 1820 Cumberland Co. NC census is that of Joseph Gardner, with 1M 0-10, 1M 26-45, 1F 16-26. This may be the family of Niell's daughter, Elizabeth Gardner, named in his will.
Neill McLeran and his wife Christian McLeran were named as heirs of Dougald McKethan in the sale of Sampson Co. land in 1841; Neill was not included with Christian McLeran among the heirs of Neill McKethan and Dougald McKethan in the 1843 division of their estate (see notes for "Blind John McKethan").
Neill's death is recorded in the family Bible of Alfred Augustus McKethan, now (1997) in the possession of Mrs. Dorothy McKethan Mason, Brooksville, FL.
