Notes

He was a millwright, and evidently moved south from Vermont following that trade. He supervised the construction of the Yulee Sugar Mill for U. S. Senator David Yulee (formerly Levy) near Homosassa, Florida. He and his family moved to the vicinity of present-day Brooksville in the 1850's, where he acquired several tracts of land, including one from a federal land grant, and where he operated a lumber mill. He and an adjoining landowner donated 15 acres each for the formation of the town of Brooksville as the county seat of Hernando County, Florida; he died before the transaction was completed, and the transfer of title was handled by the administrator of his estate, William Hope.
