The house he built in 1882 in Brooksville, FL is still standing, one block west of the Hernando Co. Courthouse, address 7 N. Orange Avenue, and is occupied by his grandson Alfred Augustus McKethan.

In the latter part of the Civil War he served as a member of the Home Guards.
