Tombstone inscription: "In Memory of Neill McKethan who departed this life Novr 27th 1836 Aged 46 Years & 8 Mos." This stone was moved, along with the others in the McKethan Family Cemetery, to the Bluff Church Cemetery in 1986.

No widow or children were mentioned in the estate settlement for Neill and his brother Dougald, (Cumberland Co. NC Deed Book 45:216) dated Mar. 2, 1843, which named heirs Janet Phillips, John McKethan, Christian McLeran, James McKethan, Mary Walker wife of Alexander, Angus Culbreath, Grisella Culbreath, Neill Kyle, John Kyle, children of Robert Kyle. The settlement mentions 200 acres patented by John McKethan Dec. 22, 1768. A lot is given to Alexander Walker & Mary his wife. 1/4 part of 300 acres granted to James McKethan by letters patent Mar. 4, 1775. Signed C. Montague, Joel Williams, John C. Williams.
