Interesting Mathematics Sites
- David Joyce's
Home Page is one of the most interesting math sites I have found on
the Web. Here you will find
- An online edition of Euclid's Elements, together with
wonderful java applets to view the associated figures, and Dr. Joyce's
explanations of the material.
- Some information about the Mandelbrot Set and Julia Sets, together
with a "clickable" picture for exploring the Mandelbrot Set and the
associated Julia Sets.
- A program for generating Newton Basins based on Newton's Method for
finding the roots of a polynomial over the field of complex numbers. The
images generated are almost as interesting as the Mandelbrot set, and
display the same sort of approximate self-similarity. To see some
examples that I created, click here.
- Information about Wallpaper Groups
- Lots of other neat stuff, mostly related to geometry.
- Mandelstep
has a java applet for observing the behavior of Mandelbrot sequences.
Here, you click on the "seed" point and watch what happens to the sequence
it generates.
- The Mandelbrot Explorer
is another clickable picture of the Mandelbrot Set. Here you can click
on a point to zoom in or out, and generate some really beautiful and
intricate pictures.
- Cut-The-Knot is a page
devoted to the appreciation of math in all its variety. There is so
much here it is impossible to list everything...you just have to go
there and explore.
- The Java Gallery of Interactive
On-Line Geometry, from the Geometry Center at the University of
Minnesota.
-
Flatland, an on-line edition of the classic work by Edwin A.
Abbott, complete with illustrations.
- Kevin Brown's MathPages
contains articles on a wide variety of mathematical topics.
- Frank Potter's
Science Gems - Mathematics has a listing of many math-related sites,
with links to them all. It is updated quite often.
