Notes

Dd His nickname Old McJohn came from being orphaned at five years old and the English oppression after Culloden. He came to America about 1770 (probably 1775) and landed at Wilmington. He volunteered during the Rev. War into Capt. William Meer's Company. He fought at Caney Creek and at Slippery Bridge; he was hit in the shoulder by two musket balls.
