!NOTES: Billy Gardenhire records. Buried in Mt Zion Cemetery in Rockwall County, Texas.

!NOTES: None of John's six sone remaied in TN., only Stephen married there, where two of his six children were born. In 1833 records in Overton County, Tennessee we find that John Gardenhire was ordered to be released form forfieted bonds. Story has that some time in the late 1840's John killed a slave and fled to Arkansas. He apparently took Rubin F. and Eliza B. and her husbakd Samuel Caldwell with him. They are shown in the 1850 census of Crawford County, Arkansas. Sarah and the other children remained in Tennessee in Stephens H's home. During the 1850's John migrated to Kaufman County, texas and was joined by his wife, Sarah and some of the children. (Per Lawrence W. Gardenhire)

!NOTES: The dates on John's headstone do not add up. I am not sure if birth date on the headstone is correct. Some records indicate John was born in 1798 and the death date of 1873 is well documented in Collin County, Texas. (Note by Billy Gene Gardenhire)
