!NOTES: The 1870 census shows him and his brother, George William living with their grandparents Leroy and Nancy Farmer. The boy's mother Mary Lou died when William was born and their father had been in the Civil War. The boys were living with their Grandmother Sarah and Uncle Reuben F. Gardenhire in the 1880 census.

!NOTES: James married Mammie "May" Bramlett on 17 Feb 1884 in Rockwall County, Texas, and moved to Round Mountain in Blanco County, Texas. James and his father George had a job hauling marble stones for the new Texas State Capitol Building that was under construction in Austin.

!NOTES: Two children were born in Round Mountain and then James and May moved back to Rockwall where they lived until 1896. In 1896, the moved to Bluff Creek in Taylor County, Texas. James managed and coached county baseball teams playing in neighboring towns of Abilene, Bronte, Ballinger, and San Angelo. Framily information indicates that relaitves from Stephen County lived with James and May for a a short time and were possibly Van and Lock Gardenhire.

!NOTES: James farmed in Taylor County until 1913 and then they moved to Daugherty, Murray County, Oklahoma. James had a grocery store and also farmed. He often served as a deputy sheriff and while attempting to arrest a bootleggar, he was shot in the chest. All that save him was his metal glasses case in his breast pocket. The bullet knocked him to the ground and while he was on the ground, James fired and killed the bootlegger.

!NOTES: In 1925, James and May moved to O'Donnell, Texas. While living there he formed a baseball team of nine of his sons as the team. It is thought that they won every game they played.

!NOTES: May died 1 Sep 1941 in Lamesa Texas. James Napoleon died 15 Jan 1951 in Austin, Texas. They were buried at O'Donnell, Texas.
