!NOTES: From the memorial service at Labish Community Church, Salem, Oregon - "Mike was born in Downey, California. It cost his dad $100 to bring him into the world, and his mom a lot more! His father worked for Douglas Aircraft Company at Long Beach, California and was transfered around the county. During those many moves, Mike was exposed to a wide variety of communities which had a great influence in developing his personality. He was an avid Civil War buff and was often in trouble with his teachers for correcting their history statements. Mike finished his last three years of high school in Troy, Illinois, and considered that his home. Mike finished his final three years in college at Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology. While there, he was an R.O.T.C. Scholar and recieved his officer's commission in the U. S. Air Force upon graduation. He was also involved as a Boy Scout leader for a group of inter-city boys. After graduation, he went into the Air Force and was finally stationed in Texas. During the period of 1977-1983, Doug, Maggie, Nicholas, and Abby were born. Mike started and ran several businesses during the time he lived in Texas. In 1990, Mike moved to Oregon with his wife Diana and was blessed with two children - Katy and Cole. He began a consulting and training business in the handling of hazardous materials and emergency response. Everyone liked Mike! Mike enjoyed softball and Texas sized barbecuing. He seldom met anyone that he couldn't talk to and usually made friends with all those he came in contact with. Mile will always be remembered for his unique sense of humor, tremendious loyalty, and deep sense of honor. His love the his family was surpassed only by his love for the Lord and his Church. In addition to his children, he is survived by his wife Diana; parents Bill and Barbara Flanigan and a brother, William."
