!NOTES: Cleburne Daily Times, Wed, Jul 12, 1911: " 'Uncle' Joe Dalton Answers the Last Bugle Call this Morning at 10 O'Clock. At 10 o'clock this morning 'Uncle' Joe Dalton, soldier, patriot and citizen answered the last bugle call and his spirit was transported from the suffering body to the realm of eternal peace. For months and months 'Uncle' Joe, as all his friends called him, had been an invalid, and his death was expected a most any time, but careful nursing and living care, and indomitable will power kept him with us, until now, but when death came this morning and the news was spread over town, there was many expressions of sorrow. Deceased was born in Logan county, KY, in 1836, and was therefore 75 years of age. He grew to manhood in his native state and when the war between the states came on he joined the Confederate Army and served with the Seventh Kentucky Regiment. At the battle of Brice's Cross Roads he lost a leg. He was in many of the battles and always proved a fearless and valant soldier. In 1875 he came to Texas for a a time lived at Alvarado, where he engaged in the general merchandise business. He was the first tax collector of Johnson county, and held that office for four years. Moving to Cleburne when it was but a village, he engaged in the grocery business for several years. He was the chief organizer of Pat Cleburne Camp, No 88, I. C. V. here, and was the prime mover in the camp securing the plat of land known as Confederate Park. 'Uncle Joe' was a true Southerner, an honest, Christian gentleman, a good firend, and though suffering for many years, was always pleasant and had a cordial word for all his many friends and acquantances when he met them. The funeral will take place from the residence tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock. Thus another one of the old pioneers, who have paved the way for and helped make this great, grand and glorious country, a rich heritage for the present and future generations has gone to his last reward leaving a life and deeds of good, worthy of emulation by us all. They are going one by one. Peace to his ashes."
