!BIRTH: 1850 Census in Lafayette Co, MO.

!DEATH: Records of Christ Episcopal Church in Lexington, MO states that Henry Smith was buried from the church on Oct 2, 1871 Also an Obit in the Warrenburg Johnson Weekly Democrat 107 1871 p 3 col 5 "Died in this city, on Sunday last, 1st October, after a short illness of janudice, Henry Smith, aged about 70 years. Mr. Smith had resided here for some forty years and was well known to most of our people in connection with the Star Mill. The remains we taken to Lexington for interment. Mr. S leaves a wife and several children, all grown, to mourn his death. Mr. Smith was a native of Kentucky from where he removed to southeast Missouri in an early day and from thence to St Louis over thirty years ago. From St. Louis he removed to Lexington where we made his acquanitance in 1857. Mr. Smith was kindhearted and generous, a true friend, a good husband, and an indulgent, patient father. He died in the belief of an everlasting life hereafter."

!NOTES: In the book Portrait and Biographical Record, Johnson and Pettis Counties Missouri, published Chapman Publishing Company, Chicago, 1895 on page 243, "Dr Willis V. Smith, M.D. was born in Lexington Mo, May 27. 1852 and is the son of Henry and Mary A (Violet) Smith, the former of whom was a native of Kentucky born in 1802. The grandfather, Henry Smith, Sr. emigrated from Germany to North Carolina and afterward settled in Logan County, Ky., where he became an extensive slaveholder and planter. Henry Smith, Jr. was married in the Blue Grass State, and in 1844 moved to St. Louis, where he engaged in constructing and building, and many of the structures he then put up are yet in a good state of preservation. About 1847 he moved to Lexington, MO, where he went into the milling business, and the first large flour mill was erected there and is still owned by one of his sons-in-law. In 1853, he went to Independence, MO, where he built and operated another flour mill, and also engaged in mercantile pursuites for four years. Then, coming to this city, he put up another mill, which he carried on until his death, which took place in October, 1871. He was long identified with the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows and with the Southern Methodist Episcopal Church."
