Notes

Milam family Hoag family

William Lewis Priest was a Lt. in Confederate Army. Some of his cousins were in the Union Army (on the Vandiver side). He made 2 trips to Colorado during the gold rush days but came back to Shelbina and worked in a general store in Shelbina. After his marriage to his 2nd cousin he purchases a farm 3 1/2 miles west of Shelbyville. Both parent objected to the marriage and they waited a long time on account of this. His children were born there (Perhaps not the first two) and so also was his son, Thomas Eugene's children (except the youngest, Mary Elizabeth).

He was superintendent of the Sunday School at Morris Chapel Methodist church for over 30 years. He was a kind, gentle, honest Christian man. He died when I was about 5 years old but I remember some things about him. My Grandfather.
