!NOTES: Book, Souvenir of Texas:"Solomon S. Duckworth, a native of Fannin county, Texas was born August 24, 1854. His father, James F. Duckworth, was born in Tennessee and at the age of six years was taken by his parents to Illinois, where he grew to manhood, and there married Miss Mary J. Gray, daughter of Thomas Gray, of the State above mentioned. To this union were born ten children, named in order of their birth as follows - James P., Sarah. J., Solomon S., Benjamin J., Andrew A., Roander A., Alfranza E., John W., Mary E., and Matha A., and all are married. Solomon S. Duckworth is the maker of his own fortune. He started life with nothing and now owns a good farm and dwelling, and is independent of the world. In December 1872, he married Frances E. Horner, daughter of Roberto Horner, a native of Missouri who was a soldier in the recent war from beginning to close and afterward settled in Texas. To Mr. and Mrs. Duckworth have been born the following five children - Robert F., John W., Tura E., Lena M., and Mary J. Mr Duckworth is a member of the Christian church and a firm adherent of the Farmers' Alliance. Mrs. Mary J. Duckworth was born in Ohio, but when seven years of age was taken by her father to Indiana, where she lived until fifteen years old and them moved to Illinois where she was married to Mr. Duckworth in 1845. The following year the pair came to Texas and camped on Caney Creek - owners of one horse and five dollars in cash. For two years they lived on rented land; they even bought a farm on the east side of the creek, having by industry and economy acquired means sufficient for that purpose. J. F. Duckworth died June 19, 1877, leaving his widow in possession of the homestead, one hundred acres of which she keeps under cultivation."
