Notes

After the birth of the youngest girl, she apparently suffered from a malady that we know today as a temporary insanity sometimes associated with childbirth. At that time it was not understood and she was commited to a state hospital. It is not known if she died there or at home. Also there are apparently no pictures of her that we have found. Her father, John Vandiver was the inventor of the first practical 2-row corn planter. Family tradition has it that her mother, Julia Jacobs acted as First Lady of Virginia during the governorship of her brother, John Jeremiah Jacob. (1871-1877)
