!DEATH: Book "Civil War Veterans of Johnson County Texas" lists Dalton, D. G. b: 4 March 1834 d: 16 January 1914 b: Cleburne Cem Blk 51. Texas death certificate #1512

!NOTE: The Cleburne, Texas Daily Enterprise, January 17, 1914, has his obit: "D. G. Dalton Goes to Final Reward Friday Evening. At 6:20 Friday evening at his home No 423 West Willingham Street D. G. Dalton passed to his eternal reward, surrounded by his children and friends. "Uncle Gib" as he was familarly called by his numerous friends was one of the most beloved citizens of the county, and was one of the early settlers. Born in Logan County, KY, March 4, 1834, he would have been 80 years of age had he lived to the coming March. In December 1855 he was married to Miss Sue Irwin in Logan county, KY. In 1872 they moved to Texas first locating in Mexia. After two years residence there they moved to Johnson county, locating at Stubblefield Mill, now Greenbier, from there they moved to Alvarado where they resided for two years, moving from there to Jack county, remaining for four years, returning to Cleburne, where they located and have ever since resided. Mr. Dalton lived a very active life and was strong and healthy up to about a year ago when he had a nervous breakdown, caused principally by his attention to the loved companion who had been his mainstay, guide and faithful helpmeet for all these years, and who passed away. He began growing weaker, but was up and about until a few weeks ago, when he had to remain at home and gradually grew weaker until he took his bed. He was tenderly cared for by his children, grandchildren, and his friends until the end. Mr. Dalton was appointed county surveyor in 1891 to fill out an unexpired term and was elected each election continuously and was serving up to a few weeks ago, when he resigned. He was perhaps the oldest Odd Fellow in Cleburne, both in age and length of Membership. He united with the order when a young man in Kentucky, and after moving to Texas he affiliated with the Lodges in this state, and after locating in Cleburne he deposited his membership with Johnson Lodge, No. 131, and has always been an active member, and considering his age was one of the most regular attendants at the meetings of the Lodge. He was a Confederate Soldier and was a member of Company K, 7th Kentucky Regiment following the Confederate flag throughout the four years of conflict. He was a member of Pat Cleburne Camp, No. 88 U.C.V. He leaves five children, besides a number of grandchldren, to mourn his death and revere his memory. The children are: Mrs. C. B. Smith of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Mrs. S. P. Weaver, Grandview, Mrs. R. D. Hardcastle, Cleburne, Mrs. Jean Hornbuckle, Venus, and Joe G. Dalton of Fort Worth. All of these were with him when the end came."
