!DEATH: Tombstone in Cotten Gin cemetery, Freestone county, TX. Stone reads "Gone but not forgotten and does not have a birth date on it.

!NOTES: From the book "History of Freestone County": "Sterling Sime came to Freestone county with his wife, Sarah Fitzpatrick Heard Sims, from Georgia in 1852. He established Simsboro in Freestone County. This couple is buried in the Cotton Gin Cemetery. (lists children...)."

!NOTES: Book History of Freestone County, TX: "Sarah was the daughter of William Heard and Catherine Bird and the grandaughter of George Heard and Sarah Fitzpatrick. Ther were living in Thomas county, (GA) in 1840 and in Jefferson count, Florida in 1850. Three of their children, Francis, Mark and Elizabeth had died. In 1845 his daughter, Mary had a boy friend that Sterling did not like, so Sterling hid in a tree and took a shot at him. It was not long before Mary had another boy friend and said she was going to marry him. Sterling thought that since this one was a Preacher he might be all righ. So Mary married at the age of eleven to Rev. Franklin McMillan. Franklin and Mary came to Texas and settled one mile east of Simsboro." (text deleted) In 1851 Sterling received his share of his father's estabe and left Pensacola by boat for Freestone county by way of New Orleans and Gavelston. The Sims family along with 17 slaves, cam up the Trinity River to Navarro Crossing and from there made the journey to Freestone County on ox-wagons where they built their first home in 1852. Sterline was a blacksmith and operated the first horse-drawn cotton gin at Simsboro."
