!BIRTH: From gravestone (picture in my possession). Also from Charles F. Johnson, Denison, Texas. Date agrees with Fannin Co. Texas census of 1870-1900.

!NOTE: From Clark Johnson: The years between 1840 and 1870 are unknown to me. After coming to Texas he lived for a time with his half-brother, Samuel, and his family. He apparently became a successful farmer, and owned a farm in Fannin County. (Picture of this in my possession.) Later he moved to Sherman, Texas, where he lived at 524 Elm Street (Picture in my possession), and died there. According to my father, he did not trust banks or insurance companies, and buried his money. My father states he barely remembers his grandfather. During his last years he sat in a rocker and smoked a pipe. He occassionally walked to town (about 5-6 blocks from his home to the courthouse square). In my files there is a poor picture of him sitting on a bed in his home in Sherman, with his rocker partly in front of him. This may have been made and developed by his daughter, Belle (Johnson) Payne. No other family members remember any other picture of him. (Original of this picture in Clark Johnson files).
