!NOTES: Obit in Lexington News, January 12, 1893, page 3, col 5: "SMITH -- AT St. Louis, MO, January 5, 1893, after a long illness, Mrs. Mary Virginia, widow of the late William Smith, in the 41st year of her age. Her remains were brought to this city Sunday morning and interred beside her husband in Machpelah. Her two sons, Messers William E and Ralph Smith accompanied her remains here. Brief services were held at the grave by Rev W. A. Carpenter, of the Methodist church of which church the deceased was a member. Mrs. Smith was a sister-in-law of Mrs. W. F. Kerdolff, and was a resident of this city for a few months. Her untimely death will be read with regret. The Globe-Democrat of the 8th inst, had the following: Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon over the remains of Mrs. Mary V. Smith at her late home, No. 2331 Alleton place in the presenced of a large group of mourners. Rev M. B. Chapman, editor of the St. Louis Christian Advocate, and Rev E. B. Chappell of the Lafayette Park Southern Methodist Church, conducted the exercises, which included the duet, "Asleep in Jesus", by two young women. Dr. Chapman, who was her pastor in Arkansas, spoke freely of the Christian fortitude displayed by the noble woman during her six months siege of sickness. Last night the body was trasnported to Lexington, MO. for interment. Deceased was the widow of W. G. Smith, formerly a well-known merchant, and two orphan sons survive."

She has been, and is, a wonderful wife and mother. She has been my strength and support, has brought me much happiness, and has truly been the light of my life. We have had a particularly strong and happy relationship.
